Heddle release: December 1, 2025
I do like to make extra special and elaborate heddles for Christmas and this year is no exception! However, I have not managed to make as many as I would have wanted. I usually want to have at least 15 heddles in a release, but this time I would only manage to finish 7. On the other hand, they take about double the time to make compared to my more simple heddles, so maybe that’s understandable.
There are 7 heddles going up for sale in the webshop on December 1, 21.00 Swedish time. Scroll down to the bottom of this blog post to see them in full view with measurements and prices.
This set of heddles is inspired by an image I saw of the old warehouses in the harbor of Norwegian town Bergen. I love how you can see some houses peeping out behind the first row, and as often happens, my mind elaborated on that effect, creating rows of perfectly stacked houses behind the first ones. A late bloomer
I think I started this heddle during last winter. Or was it two years ago? Anyway, it’s inspired by a stylized drawing of a Norwegian church. I had high hopes for it but when I painted it I felt brave and chose another color than my usual red, and I didn’t like it at all because that paint had a little different coverage than my preferred blue. In short it looked blotchy and I was disappointed, so the heddle went into hibernation on the “to paint“- shelf, and has been these ever since. But now I felt that it would fit in (kind of?) with the set so I gave it another coat of red paint, filled in the gold details and cut out some windows, and now it’s finally finished! I brought it back from the brink of the “burn“ pile, and I’m happy I did.
Christmas candles are back!
I made a batch of these for sale last year and you guys seemed to like them to I thought I’d make some more for this Christmas season. And so I did! These candles are made out of dry birch wood and painted with white milk paint and a gold paint ment for repairing gilded frames. The ring is brass wire and it han be used to hand the candle anywhere you want.
The end of the candlestick may vary a bit in size and is not cut to fit any specific chandelier size, mainly because that would take me longer to do and would bump up the price, which I want to keep as reasonable as possible as these candles look VERY sweet in groups.
The candles will be published in my web shop at the sale time as the heddles, and their price will be 250 Sek / piece. They measure around 9,5 cm long and 1-1,5 cm wide.
Hand for scale!
These heddles are made out of dry birch wood, locally sourced from a friend and processed by me from tree trunk to weaving tool. They are painted with linseed oil, I use paint made for art and then dilute it with a little more oil to make it viscous. For the gold details I used a type of paint used by frame makers to paint picture frames.
All heddles in the gallery below have their measurements stated but in case numbers seem abstract, here’s my hand with a bunch of heddles from the set, from the smallest to the largest.
A note on shipping to the USA:
US Shipping is currently available! I will ship via UPS and you can read more about my shipping terms here. The most important thing I want to highlight is that as a US recipient of commercial goods you’ll have to pay additional import fees, which will be charged separately by UPS.
This set consists of 7 heddles that will be released on December 1, 21.00 Swedish time. The heddles will be for sale in the webshop, not here on the blog. This is a preview for you guys, so you can have a look at the heddles before they hit the web shop. Click or tap the images to enhance them and see the heddle measurements! If you are buying heddles from me for the first time you might want to read this blog post in preparation.
Ps. When browsing this blog post on a mobile device the text with the measurement + price info does not appear automatically when you tap a picture to enhance it. After enhancing the picture, look at the bottom right hand corner of the screen where there is a small white dot. Tap that and the info will appear!
