New band patterns

I’ve made one new band pattern and two variations on an old favorite and I’d like to share them with you! All of them are woven with the linen weaving yarn I sell in the webshop. The threading charts are in the same style as the band patterns in my book Simple Weave, where you can also find the mouse hop band I allude to below.

Raspberry mouse hop band

The “mouse hop“ pattern is a slim, double dot band that I first wove after seeing a similar one used in a 1800’s farmwife cap at an antique fair. This band is an elaboration on it, with pink beaming out to the sides: I was honestly not thinking of raspberries when drawing the pattern but when searching for a name it felt cute. Raspberry mouse hop. Like it could also be the name of a jig or a reel, played on a fiddle…

Just like mouse hop, this band has double thickness in the two black middle dots. Looking at it now, it would have made sense to balance that with making the middle white a double thread too…
Colours used are Warm pink, Burgundy, Black and White.

Blue speckled horse band

In my mind this band is named Blue speckled horse because I have a short piece of it attached to a blue speckled horse heddle that I bring to my classes. I tried naming it something else but it just didn’t stick. It’s a nice design, using only 17 threads in total. Even if the band is only like 6 mm wide it has some dynamic, I think it’s the white specks that reminds me of an eye… I’m sure the human brain is programmed to look for eyes everywhere.

Next time I paint these threading charts I’ll use a nicer paintbrush, that’s a promise from me to you.

The yarn colors I have used are Night ocean, Mist, Smudged orange and Smudged teal.

Green speckled horse band

There is no green speckled horse in my heddle library but I’m sure you can see the sense of the name for this band. It’s essentially the same as the one above, only in green. I made the light bar in the slot row 2 threads wider too.

Colors used are Fir tree, Birch leaf, Mist and Gold.

If you’re looking for more band patterns you can always look into my book Simple weave (Available in the webshop in Swedish and English) or check out this blog post I did before Christmas! Happy weaving!
